AN INTRODUCTION TO OUR SYSTEM
Hi. Welcome to Crystal Cities. Now before you run screaming off into the internet, we just wanted to take a moment of your time to go over why we have opted to have a system. This is, in no way, to optimize power gamers and godmodders to come mess with your characters. Nor was it an attempt to chase away a lot of great gamers who want gaming without the drama. So before scamper off back to find a non-system game, let us go over the why's we chose it.
01. WE'RE NOT HERE TO CONFUSE YOU WITH THE SYSTEM. In fact, we use the system to clarify what you can, and what you can't do. For example, in Sailor Moon, one can not simply run up and punch a youma into a KO'd status. If they could, there would be little need for senshi and knights! Besides, let's face it, all of you probably know that one roleplayer who would try to attempt such a thing.
02. IT STOPS A LOT OF "HE SAID, SHE SAID" stuff that happens sometimes with conflicts and in our case, puts the power right back with the players for what happens to YOUR character.
03. IT HELPS DEFLECT FAVOURITISM. Our forum believes first in safe, happy gaming, with preferably very little OOC drama getting in the way. Everyone playing is considered an equal to the next person playing. You don't have to be personal friends with the staff to make sure your character is getting fair and equal treatment. Our system helps us keep an eye on "levels" and assist struggling players get into the flow of things.
04. FIGHTING. In Sailor Moon there is fighting. There is an epic battle of good versus evil going on and fighting is simply apart of the canon material. With a system we can explore fighting with the youma in a dynamic fashion where the "system" determines what happens. No more will you have to wonder if someone is making a call on your character's decisions based solely on their own personal opinions! Now it's all about what YOU chose to do.
05. WE HAVE LUCK! Our system includes a "luck" counter. Luck can be used to "luck out of taking damage". Don't want to take damage? use luck! You just have to 'role play' why that lucky manoeuvre happened as opposed to taking damage. We promise, we're not here to kill you. You can even buy "more" luck with EXP!
Ultimately we have a system to be a backbone to the flesh and muscle of our gaming. It's not there to cause players headaches, but to help relieve them. If someone tries something against your character, there is a system we all have agreed to follow to assist with getting out of those conflicts. No more arguments. No more "Take back your post.". Just a set of rules and agreements we all agree to play with- Including the staff.
We chose the game "Monster of the Week" to be our system of our board. Monster of the Week has a very simple system where you roll 2 dice with six sides, and add your stats to the outcome. Based on your roll it's either a success, a partial success or a failure. The monsters you fight all base their actions off YOUR roll. There are six basic moves that anyone can do, and special moves to your character you choose at creation. The only time you roll is when you want information from the staff (or potentially against another player).
Don't ever want to fight a monster? Well that probably won't happen in our game-- youma are, after all, a part of life in Sailor Moon. But we can try to make it as painless and carefree as possible--- for everyone.
I ask that you give us a chance and don't let the idea of a system--- a set of rules we all agree on--- be the reason you don't play in Crystal Cities.
