Bayushi 'Daidoji' Dairu THE BASICS. AGE; 26. BIRTHDATE; 03/07. GENDER; Male. HOME CITY; Crystal Canada. PLAYED BY ( Seru )
| THE OTHER ME PLANET AFFILIATION; Earth ALIAS Kunzite ELEMENT; Light / Metal / Gravity KNIGHT DESCRIPTION;We all know and love Kunzite's outfit. Utilitarian military uniform, cape that can wrap around himself for warmth, and good solid boots and leather gauntlets. All in matte black with white highlighting, because Dairu has no fashion sense at all. He has someone for that. Her name is Ai. IMPORTANT INFORMATION; My black runesword. My summoning scrolls. My armour... I think Dairu will be content once he has all that. POWERS Jūryoton: Jūryo assaiki (3 HARM); After forming the Tiger -] Snake -] Dragon -] Crossed Tiger Hand seals, while calling out the name of the maneuver, Dairu claps his hands together, increasing gravity on his foe in an attempt to crush them. This is a projection of a graviton beam in a cone outwards from Dairu. Range: Far Tags: Gravity; Additions: Area; Defects: Gestures, Words Hikari no sokudo (0 HARM); Dairu moves FAST in this form. While he, despite the name, does not move truly at C, he moves quite quickly, using Gravity subconciously to his advantage. SPECIAL MOVES Cooking; Dairu makes good food. Really good food. Like, he was once mobbed by small children who had co-ordinated a military grade tactical raid with the assistance of a number of Onyx bodyguards in order to get their hands on his Nanaimo Bars good. Dairu has actually been kidnapped simply to cook for a particularly amoral Onyx woman with one hell of a sweet tooth in the past. This is not a 'ha ha' kidnapped. This was a black bag on the head, thrown in a van kidnapping. Dead Language Expert; Someone has to be able to read these archaic manga that Honourable Lord-Uncle collected like a packrat. Dairu took it on himself to learn to do just that... The fact he can quietly photocopy and distribute the... 'Blue' Material to young impressionable teenagers, with translations, is a nice side revenue. BONUSES BONUSES NAME; Crystal Family: Diamond | ||||||||
APPEARANCE Tall, imposing, pale, a man who has more in common with Spectres and Corpses, with the Vampires of semi-ancient lore, akin to Dracula or Carmilla, and not those miserable snivelling faeries of the Supernatural Romance genre. Dairu stands at about six feet six inches tall, with a build that belies some attempts to stay in shape, but an inability to make it his main focus. His appearance almost screams 'Father Figure' to small children. Something about him allows him to come across as an authority figure to little ones, and makes it so when he steps in, small children immediately take his words as being important. By the same token, teenagers and young adults rebel against Dairu seemingly by instinct. He simply ignores this, and shouts louder. Dairu tends to dress far to heavily for the climate he is in, though given he is a firm believer in being prepared, it makes some modicum of sense. His heavy coat, and backpack full of random junk allows him to survive extended stays away from home when all things just go to hell. Blue eyes, long sheet white hair, and large glasses tend to catch attention before anything else does when it comes to Dairu. He has extensive tattoo work done over his body, another reason Dairu dresses so conservatively, doe in traditional Japanese methods, and showing an entirely random, but seemingly inspired story across his body. Dairu simply wanted to have his ghostly white skin, prone to breaking out in acne below the neck, covered, and paid a very good, and quite creative tattooist a large sum of money to do something that tells a story, and would cover his entire body. It tells the story of four animals trying desperately to protect and nurture a Yellow Dragon. The dragon is supposed to marry another dragon, a beautiful scarlet one, that one of the Animals, a white tiger, loves as well. The Yellow Dragon falls in love with a Rabbit, and betrays the trust of the four animals, and brings about a terrible war, leading to all those creatures dying painfully and tragically, though the Yellow Dragon and the Rabbit die in one others arms, as the White Tiger bleeds out alone, with the Scarlet Dragon staring past him at the Yellow. It is worth noting that this is read from right to left, inverting what would be west to east, making it instead east to west. HOBBIES Dairu's hobbies generally come in two varieties. A broad spectrum of hobbies he indulges in infrequently, and generally only with specific partners, these being the ones he uses to connect with the wards he still is called on to sometimes attend to, and wishes to remain close to, and those he holds personally. Dairu does not dislike anything, barring a noted distaste for sappy romantic movies, although he has channeled it into a determination to write better romance, and CHANGE THE TREND ENTIRELY SO HELP HIM ELRIC... And a distaste for leaving the Crystal Cities. He tends to comment that it makes his skin itch unpleasantly. Dairu's private fondness comes in the form of his now passed Lord-Uncle's massive collection of manga, that Dairu quietly had moved into a safe place, hidden under a fantastic noodle shop that Dairu pays a decent sum to rent out, and have as a hideaway, his fondness for co-operative gaming of the tabletop variety, and finally his writing of trashy romance novels under the pseudonym of 'Shosuro Furuyari'. The Diamond family are currently trying to hunt down who Shosuro Furuyari actually is so they can force this writer to work for them exclusively. Preferably by making them marry a Diamond. Dairu finds great humour in the fact that he has been asked to keep an eye out on this particular issue. Current theories are that Furuyari is actually a woman given their chosen field. Dairu has bribed a number of people to never speak of his being Furuyari. Frankly, if the family can not figure out the reference, then they have no need of his writing talents. HABITS Dairu has a variety of bad habits, as well as a fistful of good ones. Dairu listens well, and is in fact about the most loyal friend someone can ask for. He has basically encyclopedic knowledge of his chosen ward Ai's tastes and moods, and while he often disappears, choosing to never be around when she is in a foul mood until he can step in and make her feel better, he makes the times he IS around fun and happy for her. The fact that he is entirely non-romantic he assumes is a positive. Ai likely has her own opinions on the matter. He has an undeniable craving for Japanese cuisine, both the 'modernized' Sushi, as well as traditional cuisine. The man actually has abstained from eating westernized food for large portions of his life, mostly out of habit, not a conscious choice. He also quietly sells what can only be described as 'Doujinshi of Questionable Origin and Content' to impressionable teenagers to make a quick buck. His cars have a false bottom in the trunk, and it is where he keeps it in an airtight container. These are, again, 'localized' by Shosuro Furuyari. A joke he carries on from his uncle, who was a very non-traditional Ruby man. Dairu still does not get how the Diamond have not put it all together, buuuut, he also knows that the Family Head rather likes his Nanaimo Bars, and he has made it habit to continue to ensure a shipment of those is waiting for them whenever they are in Crystal Angeles. He likes to think it might have something to do with why he has not been made to stop if they know. Dairu pursues all forms of knowledge, all forms of skill, all forms of... Diversion. Dairu does not say no to things, barring deeply scatological, or frankly monstrous activities. Dairu has found himself pulled into martial arts classes, study groups, has had people drag him into participating in five different religions, and has taken part in more forms of organized sport than he cares to remember. Dairu is simply torn in about a thousand different directions, and happy for it, allowing him to distract himself. Ai is the island he situates himself on, while he is a hurricane of activity, being yanked to and for by anyone who has his number. He tends to need to reschedule often, so he can not be committed to anything, but he can have a shallow understanding of it without much issue. And likely the acquaintances to understand something if needed. Apart from this, Dairu is fond of Sake, Caffinated Chocolate balls he calls 'Military Ration Pills' that also have multivitamins and painkillers embedded in them (Dairu does not let anyone else have these without first checking if they have allergies.), and Green Tea. Dairu specifically carries a thermos of a mixture of honey, green tea, and sake that he calls 'happy juice'. He also has a compartment in the lid that will deploy a measure of Buckleys cough syrup into it should someone else ask for some. He simply twists the lid the opposite direction. And as he routinely shakes the thermos before drinking, they do not ever suspect that he is ensuring they get the full potentcy of the most terrible substance known to mankind for DARING to touch his Happy Juice. Serves them right. Dairu's final habit... Is a regrettable contingency. Ai. She is someone he values, and he is prepared, if her fears come to pass, and the Diamond cut her off? To step in, and... Correct this. Dairu is capable of self-sacrifice, of giving absolutely ANYTHING for those people he cares about. Dairu does not love Ai. Dairu has no capacity for romanticlove, as it is an inherently alien emotion to his mindset, for despite his parents having been... What they were, Dairu simply does not comprehend the passion needed, seeing only the dedication, and that something is missing in his analysis, and what his parents exhibit. But he recognizes that form of Love as a concept, and marriage should not... Occur without it. He is willing to sacrifice his honour for Ai, to keep her safe. PERSONALITY Dairu is not a man of deep mystery, or hidden depths, Dairu's mask is all he is. Inside, Dairu is hollow, but sincere. He derives great pleasure from everything he does, and despite the elemental detachment he feels, despite his consistent pursuit of some different form of debauchery, some new form of hedonism that WILL MAKE THE DETACHMENT STOP, he is not a cruel man. In fact, he is one capable of sincere compassion, and willful sacrifice for the well being of others. Pleasant, warm, if not a little odd, and entirely comfortable being as close or as distant as you need him to be, while Dairu may not be your BEST friend, he is likely one that is rewarding to have. Dairu is a deeply honourable man, but defines his honour personally. He refuses to be categorized, and will act contrary to any expectation that is made plain to him if he dislikes the person making it, but gains nothing from it... Dairu is a willful prick, but does not let his pride prevent him form profiting off of a bad situation. His honour demands he be efficient in all things, and that means that if he must dislike the situation, he will if it makes him profit, whatever that profit is. Dairu is missing something. He feels wrong as if there is too much inside him, as if he is always overfilled, as if something is blocking the natural energies... Whatever it is, it deeply disconcerts him, especially since it prevents him from calling on Magic, or the 'Inner Reserves' he sees others use so often. Others seem to be able to use those energies, and yet... He can not. He hates that his body lacks that crucial binding element. In some primordial part of Dairu's mind, he realizes what is missing, or rather... What is being stoppered. And he is waiting for it to be within his grasp. HISTORY In another world, Dairu was born into a dutybound marriage, and the ensuing tragedy would have led to a catastrophic set of events... But, Fate was not so kind as to give Dairu that brief mercy. Dairu was born to a passionate, loving marriage between Bayushi Kachiko, and Doji Hoturi. Through some quirk of his lineage, both sides of Dairu's family were actually related to the Diamond, his father through the Main house, and his Mother, via her mother, through the branch within Crystal Canada, even with Kachiko being ostensibly part of the Ruby house until the marriage, despite the frankly distant relation to the Ruby. Both Bayushi Kachiko and Doji Hoturi had no small amount of duties to carry out, so while Dairu knew he was loved, he also understood that his family were basically bogged down doing their part in ensuring the boring, and legalistic minutiae of the Diamond house went smoothly. Much of his raising was sadly carried out by a combination of tutors, babysitters, bodyguards, and extended family. Because of this, Dairu learned to be patient, pleasant, a little rough and tumble, and to be aware. All of these things were needed to succeed given his circumstances, and so he adapted to them. While he attended the classes expected of a Crystal Family noble, his education was also supplemented by tutors, and his father when he could, in the hope of bridging some of the distance between the two thanks to their duty. Where his father had to make an effort, there was a strong bond between Dairu and his mother, a closeness that needed no work, no effort. When there was time, the two were able to seamlessly click, and many of Dairu's softer habits, as well as his well groomed appearence can be directly traced to Kachiko keeping him from becoming too much of a typical male. And it also kept him from picking up the worst of his father's seductive habits. As an aside, it should be noted Kachiko has quietly had six affairs, four liaisons, and three casual hook ups ruined in a varied and hilarious array of circumstances to keep her husband in line. Hoturi does not know why his love life is now the sole dominion of his wife, but Dairu does, and Kachiko has sworn him to secrecy. They find it hilarious. If Kachiko were to ever say she had a major failing in raising her son, it is that her brother Hametsu has had no end of indluence on the boy. Where Kachiko is the elder sister, Hametsu able to have the freedom from responsibility to be the easily found babysitter. And got along well with Hoturi. Both these things spiralled directly out of control of Kachiko, and off Dairu went down the path of... well... It is hard to really describe, but she certainly can admit that she has only ever found a fraction of a percentage of the material Hametsu left Dairu when he eventually passed, a sadly inherited illness that Dairu and Kachiko were spared six years ago, and that Hametsu has likely made it so that while Dairu will never be like Hoturi, he will also never be free of the label 'Nerd.' On the upside, Dairu can rake in some amazing cash in poker when needed. People underestimate you when you make Magic the Gathering references. Morons. Apart from Kachiko's irresponsible mess of a brother, Dairu had few actual friends until High School, when he was able to get enough control over his life for the tutors to not be leaving him exhausted by 16:00 His first real friend was a girl from the Onyx family, who if all things had gone according to plan, Dairu would have married. She was stern, serious, but also keenly fond of the white haired blue eyed man who made it his mission in life it seemed to say yes to everything people asked of him. She latched onto the chance to monopolize SOMEONE, and that was how Matsu Haku gained a sparring partner every day. Dairu would be off guard, just walking into class, she would grab him, lift him off his feet in a bear hug, ask (order) him to join her for sparring after school, and then proceed to kick the living crap out of him with every weapon her family had trained her with. Dairu stayed physically fit, and learned how to defend himself, and Haku gained a long standing friendship, as well as a convenient trophy boyfriend when needed. Dairu, finding no end of humour in this part, played along. The social acceptance was well worth training a novice in how to defend himself. Dairu's other friendships were minor, and never had the depth of the bonds he formed with his Lioness of a sparring partner, but it can never be said that he is cold, or distant. Dairu has no end of acquaintances that he is fond of, and if any of them can actually pin him down (figuratively or literally), he is happy to spend time with them. That this has also meant that Dairu is likely a wealth of information on the up and coming generation of nobles is no small incentive for his family to nudge him to keep this sort of behaviour up. One of the major events that Dairu himself would call important, was the day that he discovered his cooking actually IS good, despite what he would say to the contrary. Also, that people are bloody crazy. The one day he managed to beg off from Haku, escaping to catch up on a bit of reading, clearing the rest of his schedule... He stepped out a fine saturday morning, crept out of the gates of his family's demense, dressed down for his trip to a Hobby Store he was a fond patron of... And then he felt someone tackle him, throw a black bag over his head, and a 'short' van ride later, he discovered A: Haku's family have no concept of restraint, and that B: They are exceedingly good people, if a little in need of respecting someone's personal space. No charges filed, as Dairu was able to ascertain this was actually meant to be how Haku had intended to grab him, and had not mentioned to her family they had made other plans... But Kachiko took a dim view of this situation, filing a quiet request for the Angeles Diamond branch to take Dairu in for further training once he graduated. Graduation, Haku actually in a dress for Prom, and getting elected Prom Queen while some fool got elected King, and being expected to dance with him... Dairu vanishing to escape while he could, Parties not exactly being his favourite environs, Hametsu being one of the people 'chaperoning', they were embroiled in a game of poker with two other adults, Dairu getting cleaned out, and then he first felt someone tie something around his ponytail, and then he was being yanked off by Haku for her second dance, Dairu gaining his unique black hair ribbon, Haku's small mark on him forever... And then he received word that he and Hametsu were packing up and heading to Angeles once Dairu graduated. Something about pursuing further training, and in Hametsu's case, getting the catastrophe that was Bayushi Hametsu OUT of Canada before he caused a riot. After all... Kachiko knew who Shosuro Furuyari was. And he was passing bold in some of his work. Dairu and Hametsu moved with a minimum of fuss, having an Onyx escort to the teleporters, and one from the teleporters in Angeles to the temple that Hametsu and Dairu would be staying at. Jadeite Hiko's first impression made on Dairu was... Impressive. Any man who can rope the Ashen Crane into being a dummy for self-defense classes is impressive. That Jadeite and Hametsu got along as well? Certainly played into the Crane's respect for the man. And so a comfortable routine was formed. Dairu continued his education, with Diamond tutors stepping in now and then. He continued his self defense training with Jadeite Hiko instead of a crazy Onyx girl as his tutor. It incorporated philosophy and no small amount of other teachings, turning what had been raw knowledge into a proper Do. Where there was once some unpolished man turned into a proper Bushi, and it allowed Dairu to flourish, even if he was not a Samurai in his entirety. The Ashen Crane grew into a renaissance man, and a scholar, even with his dabblings and contantly being pulled here and there. And then Hametsu's illness overtook him, and Bayushi Dairu was alone, even with Jadeite Hiko there. Emptiness could not find it's foothold even then though. He simply threw himself into the world with stronger fervour. Hiko was a good friend, and an excellent surrogate father, like Hametsu had been. Hoturi and Kachiko were able to come for the funeral, and stay for a week, and it was strange for the Diamond and Ruby to be THIS close. but circumstances, shared lineage, and strong bonds seemed to make bloodlines and politics irrelevant. It had to end, but Dairu remained living with Jadeite Hiko, in a way, a living proof of the two families willingness to co-operate. Dairu was twenty one when he met Ai. And then he instantly latched onto her as a force of stability in his life. She was in the favour of the Diamond house from what Dairu read of the situation, and that meant he would serve his houses will by protecting her. It became symbiotic. Dairu was many things, socially graceful not one of them, despite being polite. He could not be called a proper yojimbo, but as companions go, he was an assistant that made her life smoother. And was always willing to help her. That he remembered her birthday every year, and managed to get her gifts that made him the enemy of a few of her prospective suitors... Well, he was polite enough to dispel any fear by saying he was too much of an Iron Bird to properly make a husband for her. The woman who gave Dairu his tattoos was a seer, he would only find out later. She was a contact through the Ruby, Dairu's close friendship with Jadeite, as well as with select other members of the Ruby house allowing him to get into contact with her. It took the better part of a year. A Year of sensitive skin, pain, Jadeite 'prodding' Dairu to refrain from abusing painkillers... Jadeite having no idea where they vanished too... Defense classes becoming a new form of agony when Dairu would be thrown into brick walls... When they were finally finished, the story filling his flesh... Baysuhi Dairu believed it was worth it. And so that has become his life. A Diamond who is closer to the Ruby house than many of his own ostensible kin, who seems to be the husband in many ways barring romance of an upcoming starlet, who quietly has picked up the worst of Hametsu's habits to annoy not only his mother, but have a laugh on his entire family, and being run ragged by having just enough friends who want his time to keep him all over town. RELATIONSHIPS Bayushi Kachiko: Mother, distant but firm affection. Doji Hoturi: Father, distant respect, but seperation born of duty. Bayushi Hametsu: Uncle, close loving brotherhood, deceased Jadeite Hiko: Father-Figure. Awkward closeness, deep respect. Matsu Haku: Estranged? Ex-Girlfriend due to distance. Relationship possibly non-existent? Unknown. Ai: Surrogate younger sister, firm closeness. Will kill any who harm her. ( Trinity Blood; Abel Nightroad AS Dairu Bayushi ) |
