Character Creation 2.1 - Magical Beings
Who can Be a Magical Being?
Anyone! Most people who are magical can trace their family lines- however distantly- to someone in a crystal family. There are those who don't appear to have any Crystal Family Ties, these are the rare individuals who were reincarnations from people who lived back in the Golden or Silver Millenniums (way back 4000+ years ago!) who's souls remember how to tap into planetary energy.
What is.. Magic?
In Sailor Moon most of the “magic” is elemental or has a theme (such as “Dreams” or “Purity”).
Each planet- by and large- holds their own unique abilities. For the women, this is reflected in their Senshi Abilities- such as Fire, Water, Wind, Lightning, etc. For the Men this is reflected partially by their planetary ties, and partially by their duties. * See Long Note 1 for reasons. Some people who are NOT planetary royalty able to channel the magic of their planets in large ways, can in small ways.
How do I use Magic?
All Magic moves require a “Use Magic Roll.” BIG magic requires someone to have the ability to transform into a super hero (of sorts) or be a guardian animal.
Some Magic moves that create items might only need the Use Magic roll to create the items, and can use other rolls- such as Kick Some Ass or Protect Someone to use those items.
Basic Magic is a "Special Move" that's adjusted in this section to fit your character.
BASIC MAGIC
Basic Magic is just that, simple, easy to use magic.
There are only a few rules for Basic Magic.
BIG MAGIC
BIG magic is just that, BIG magic.
To Do BIG Magic requires a transformation sequence before it can be accessed. (Aka you have to put on your super hero gear.)
Both types of Magic use the same template:
Template:
Title of Power – (What it Does, Range , Magic Subtype: , Other Detail Tags)
Describe the power, what it does, how it does it, with range, what kind of magic.... etc. About two to three sentences is probably good.
Magic, big or basic will be defined by your words and descriptions. Tags give the magical moves a backbone, but it’s how they are put together and defined that does the power.
For those who want it simple, feel free to take 2 sample powers off the list on the crystal families pages- and/or- from the “passive” magic from the thread below.
For those who want to create their own or get complicated, the next post in this thread has directions on how to create magical moves. This doesn't limit you from taking a sample power, or a passive power- it just offers more options to those who like to customize.

For Example: Mars was a very spiritual planet and the use of the Fire, not just to heat a home, cook a meal, or burn down enemy’s houses- was also a tool of divination. People who are a part of the Ruby Crystal Family, or those reincarnated ‘from’ Mars from the silver millennium (or even their descendants!) are likely to show a talent or comfort in the element of Fire. It may only be as strong as lighting a candle with a touch, or being able to see visions when meditating and staring into the fire. These people would have access to a tiny stream of the magic of their planet (or house).
*Canon* Sailor Mars, however, would have a deeper pool of magic to draw from, and not only that, but she has a finer control. She can create small, but controlled infernos. Use her Fire magic to create a sailor Fuku of fire and magic. She can see not just glimpses, but detailed visions in the fire.
Her counterpart Knight was the Shitennou of the South, Jadeite. Jadeite is not from Mars, but his ties to earth give him similar ties of fire. In Canon it was also suggested (to the delight of fan girls everywhere) that he was Sailor Mar's counter part/ lover. Certainly in our AU, he and Rei co-founded Crystal Delphi together and it's their families that created the Ruby Crystal Family after the Great Ice Age.

There are only a few rules for Basic Magic.
- You can use basic magic when transformed, or not transformed.
- Even non-royalty can use basic Magic. You don’t have to be playing a Sailor Senshi, a King, or other magical type creature to have basic Magic.
- If you have Magic it means, either your soul was a part of a royal house in the past- or- your current incarnation has an ancestor or parent who used to (or is) a part of a Crystal Family.
- Soul triumphs over Blood. If you’re the reincarnation of a Sailor Senshi, King, or other magical being, then your magic will come from that lineage overpowering whatever Crystal Family you’re a part of. (which can make for some awkward dinner conversation at home!)
**In Simple terms… if Sailor Mercury (Ice/water) is born into the Ruby Crystal Family, her basic magic would still be Water/Ice, not the Ruby Family’s basic magic of Fire. Even if no one in her immediate family can say they know where the ice/water magic comes from!**- Basic Magic only can ever effect 1 point of Harm, Soak, Heal or Purifying Magic- at most.
BIG MAGIC
BIG magic is just that, BIG magic.
To Do BIG Magic requires a transformation sequence before it can be accessed. (Aka you have to put on your super hero gear.)
- Big Magic can only ever have a max Harm, Soak, Heal, or Purification of 3. (*unless you have Strength, which brings it up to +4… but only for attacks with a physical action to them where strength would come into play… like Kicking someone in the shin…)
- Big Magic must be done while transformed. No transformation, no Big Magic.
- Big Magic has extra details that can be put into it to do a greater range of effects.
