Onyx Crystal Family Details
Details in the Life of the Onyx Family
Based out of Crystal Canada. Lead by Tomoe Li, the family is one of the premiere places for private military and police forces. Specifically specialized bodyguards for the crème-de-la-crème and other crystal families. The Li family is known the world over for their bodyguards and specialty training that they conduct in Crystal Canada. Their training in the martial arts is considered the best any would be military personal can get. They are also the only crystal family known to adopt outside of their bloodlines anyone of promising military minds, both male and female. The Local leader of the Onyx family is also the local General of the Crystal Angeles, his name is Ioz Onyx.
Bodyguards to the rich and famous, and some elite consultants, these men and women make their living guarding the bodies of some of the elite's most precious of kin. They are also hired out to guard the Idols, men, women, teens and children who are so popular in music, acting and other fields that they are in high demand and often get mobbed in the street. Their home "office" is located in Hollywood on Floor 4 of the Starlet Office Building.
Generally Speaking about the Onyx Family...
The family is very militaristic in style and form. They do not stand on the ideal that the bloodline makes the family- they believe in strength, speed and intelligence. And conventionally breed the "family" portions in with carefully maneuvered marriages and proposals. They also don't take "no" very easily for an answer. They believe in the wisdom and experience of the elders, and most are trained, from an early age, to question- and accept the punishment of questions gone wrong.
It is a give, and it is a take. Young officers, of various ranks, are often put on simple duties, such as guarding non priority buildings, young people who have worth, but may only be a third or fourth cousin. Rarely are new officers given any real power- after all, everything must be earned. You can only take up active duty in the Onyx Family after the high school graduation- if you got good grades and proved you were trust worthy.
It's a long road, and a hard one. There isn't much room for forgiveness- and the core families trust slow. Their daughters are trained in combat, and like their sons are expected to follow a strict code of honor (listed below.)
Under the Head of the Family (Boss) is usually a bodyguard who is training to be the next Head of the Family (Heir). This person also usually is half secretary, half bodyguard to the Boss himself. The ranks fall under the boss and the Heir to city captains, who in turn have their own second in command and people under them they train. They consider everyone in their ranks as family of some kind or another. Those who are too old to fight, or have injuries are still respected. Older members of the family, of all ranks regardless of where they serve often function as advisers and consultant, though have no real rank, they are heavily respected for their intelligence and wisdom. The young are often given swords to play with and taught the ways of the family.
Onyx welcomes anyone who can live with the tenets of their family to be trained, but those who don't make the cut are asked, politely, to leave.. and sometimes, "politely" is face down in a hole- died in the face of glory and honor to the hand of a youma...
The Onyx Honor Code:
No Lying
You violate the Honor Code by lying if they deliberately deceive another by stating an untruth or by any direct form of communication to include the telling of a partial truth and the vague or ambiguous use of information or language with the intent to deceive or mislead.
No Stealing
The wrongful taking, obtaining, or withholding by any means from the possession of the owner or any other person any money, personal property, article, or service of value of any kind, with intent to permanently deprive or defraud another person of the use and benefit of the property, or to appropriate it to either their own use or the use of any person other than the owner.
No Tolerating
You violate the Honor Code by tolerating if they fail to report an unresolved incident with honor implications to proper authority within a reasonable length of time.
Defense of innocent life before self (and the don't sleep with your protected clause)
Your a Guardian, a Defender. Your job is to guard and defend. We are hired to guard people. Don't sleep with the body your appointed to guard during the time your guarding her/him. If at the point you are relieved from assignment you may, on your own time, have relations with whoever you wish. Your personal life, for the most part is your own- until it effects the Family.
General rules of thumb:
Do not abandon your brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, friends and comrades on the field of battle or in places of danger.
Do not kill unless you have no choice. Killing may mean a target is permanently down, but mistakes happen. Death is one mistake we can't take back. That isn't to say that killing is not OK. Killing just means a shit load of paperwork and lot of explanation time.
Common traits in the family
High Tough, or Sharp or Cool (or a mix of those three - it's what they value).
Suggested Generic Powers:
Being able to see spirits/ghosts/youma who are spiritual.
Beng able to channel personal energy to dispel spirits from an area/person (without using paper scrolls.)
Being able to manipulate shadows and little darkness for parlor tricks/illusions.

| Tomoe Li-Onyx married his wife, Luminita Onyx, and gained control of the Onyx family at a very young age of 30. He is well into his forty's now and a father and uncle to many of Luminita's family. He takes his job as the Onyx very, very seriously. But he has a heart of gold for those who he protects. He is merciless against those who would do his family harm. |  |

 | Ioz Li-Onyx Is the canny, and as crafty as a fox. While his few friends know him to be lively, and attentive, when he's working he's stotic and unfeeling. At 24, he has recently replaced his father, Shawn Onyx, at the helm of Crystal Angeles. Acting in his father's stead and voice. He is a second cousin to Luminita Onyx. |
